Afreximbank to set up $1B oil service financing facility in Guyana

African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank), has announced intentions to establish a $1 billion oil service financing facility in Guyana. This initiative aims to enhance local participation in the country’s fast growing oil industry, in alignment with the government’s local content policies. The Bank will deploy the $1 billion facility directly to qualifying corporate clients or through a factoring line via local banks, enabling them to finance invoices from local contractors. This announcement, in the spirit of deepening Afri-Caribbean partnership, was made by Prof. Benedict Oramah, President and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Afreximbank at the Guyana Energy Conference and Supply Chain Expo being held from, February 18 – 21.

An arrow aimed at the stars can still miss its mark and fall to earth with unintended consequences

On behalf of FamotaX. and Jaequitas , I had the pleasure of attending the symposium on sustainable trade with Africa, organized by the #SDGCAFÉ in The Hague at the Malietoren on Tuesday, 11th February.

The symposium focused on the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive of the European Union (https://commission.europa.eu/business-economy-euro/doing-business-eu/sustainability-due-diligence-responsible-business/corporate-sustainability-due-diligence_en) which came into effect on 25th July 2024. I would like to extend my gratitude to the keynote speaker, Mr. Marhijn Visser of VNO-NCW and Carola Baller of the same organization, Mr. Mattijs Renden of NABC Netherlands-African Business Council, Mr. Vincent Gambrah , and Mr. Max Koffi for sharing their valuable insights.

UNESCO plaques unveiled at St. Eustatius Afrikan Burial Grounds

On January 26, Kenneth Cuvalay and Derrick Simmons of the St. Eustatius Afrikan Burial Ground Alliance (in short: Alliance), together with the Heritage Inspector, Raimie Richardson, led a delegation of the UNESCO Netherlands Commission around the historical Afrikan burial grounds Golden Rock, Godet, and Congo. Broos Institute launches archaeological research on former plantation in Suriname

Students from the Anton de Kom University of Suriname (AdeKUS) are set to spend a week on a former plantation in Boven Suriname in the last week of January 2025, where they will conduct archaeological research into the living conditions of enslaved Africans. This unique trajectory, which is partly made possible with funds from the Netherlands, is part of a project by the Broos Institute for Afrocentric Studies and Research, in collaboration with its sister foundation US4US in Suriname and the AdeKUS.

The African School of Governance launches in Kigali

KIGALI, Rwanda — The African School of Governance (ASG) officially launched on January 14, 2025, in Kigali, Rwanda and opened recruitment for its Inaugural Cohort for 2025/2026. The Grand Launch convened with distinguished leaders, policymakers, academics, and stakeholders from across Africa and beyond to celebrate the establishment of ASG as a pioneering school of governance, and Co-founded by H.E. Paul Kagame, President of Rwanda, and H.E. Hailemariam Desalegn, former Prime Minister of Ethiopia.
