The Caribbean Ancestry Club (CAC) is hosting a workshop “How to Find my Caribbean Ancestors?”, at the Nationaal Archief in The Hague November 4. The organizers, who bill themselves as a community platform for and by ABCSSS community members, note in their Facebook announcement that this event “is your chance to embark on this important journey with us if you always wanted to delve into the archives to search for your Caribbean ancestors from the ABCSSS islands?”

Dutch covid memorial includes stories from Black communities, islands

Amsterdam — The memorial “National Reflection on Covid” that opens today, Friday 29 in the Provinciehuis in North Brabant, will present an as inclusive as possible picture of the Netherlands during the corona years. On the eve of the opening ceremony, Arno Brok, the King’s Commissioner in the province of Fryslân, emphasized that much effort went into including stories from the Caribbean islands into the retrospective.

AMSTERDAM — When Dutch king Willem Alexander officiates the opening of the roving memorial “Reflecting on Covid” on Friday September 29, 2023, in the province of Brabant, one face will stand out on stage: that of St. Maarten singer Kenyo Baly. The charismatic 27-year-old performer with the velvet baritone will be singing the song “Hometown Glory by Adele.”

OXFAM: EU in danger of violating aid rules by using aid to halt African migration

The EU is in danger of violating global and EU aid rules by using aid to halt migration. This is according to Oxfam’s new report, From Development to Deterrence, which sheds light on how the EU employs its aid budget to outsource migration control to countries in Africa. The report reveals that 6 out of the 16 identified migration activities in Niger, Libya and Tunisia potentially breach aid rules. These 6 activities total €667 million, with the total funds analysed amounting to approximately €1 billion.
